Frequently Asked Questions

The TN Learning loss remediation and student acceleration act and TN Literacy Success Act require school districts to identify K-3 learners not meeting reading expectations on benchmark and TCAP assessment. These students must be provided specific supports, parental notification, and considered for retention in 3rd grade.
Foundational Literacy Skills instruction means evidence-based method of teaching students to read that includes phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension that enables students to develop reading skills required to meet Tennessee’s academic standards.
Students will be screened 3 times each school year on the Aimsweb plus diagnostic benchmark. If your student scores in one of the following categories below, you will receive notification from your child’s school.

  • Tier III (Significant reading deficiency) 10th percentile or below on the most recent Aimsweb benchmark assessment.
  • Tier II (At risk reading deficiency) 11th-25th percentile on the most recent Aimsweb benchmark assessment.

Students in Tier III and Tier II will receive extra support from teachers to work in areas of need. In the spring, a student scoring in this range will be identified as a priority student for the summer learning program.

  • Students scoring Below Expectations on the ELA Assessment will be retained in 3rd grade UNLESS the student attends summer school with a 90% attendance rate AND attends 4th grade tutoring.
  • Students scoring Approaching Expectations on the ELA Assessment will be retained in 3rd grade UNLESS the student attends summer school with a 90% attendance rate and post-test demonstrates adequate growth OR attends 4th grade tutoring.

A tutor will be assigned to your student through our TN All Corp, and your child will be required to attend three 30-minute sessions each week for a full school year.
Students must have a 90% attendance rate.

  • Window 1: September 1-16
  • Window 2: January 4-20
  • Window 3: April 24- May 19
The summer posttest will determine if a student has made adequate gains, however, we do not have a definitive score at this time.
Summer programming dates have not been made available yet, but we will communicate these dates as soon as possible.
